I have a mind-boggling number of emails, uploads, and comments containing pictures and their corresponding stories I’ve collected over the last decade which I have drawn upon to make this site as direct and “to the point” as possible.
My goal is to arm you with information that others have shared, such as locating an infestation, DIY extermination tips, and most importantly, how to prevent them in the first place.
I do not have an entomology degree, but I’ve spent countless hours researching an endless sea of information about bed bugs.
Why I Started BadBedBugs.com
After waking from a hotel room covered with bites in 2008, I searched online for what may have bitten me and began to panic. The site I landed on was designed to induce fear and steer me toward purchasing their pest control service; that’s when I decided to start my own website to help identify, eliminate, and prevent bed bugs – without the tricks.
There are hazards associated with operating a site like this; my wife called to inform me how embarrassed she was because our little girl told her dance class the bites on her arm were from bed bugs!
I get excited about working on this website, and my daughter picked up on that, so when mosquitoes bit her, she innocently assumed it was from bed bugs…
I had to explain to her that although Dad loves talking about bugs and bites, it’s something that creeps out others :)
Discovering you have bed bugs can be terrifying! They are not easy to exterminate and done wrong, can make the problem much worse and cause them to rapidly spread throughout your home or even into the next apartment.
This website’s focus is on identification, elimination, and prevention of bed bugs. You’ll spend months trying to get rid of them, and if you don’t approach this correctly, you could end up spending a fortune!
Help others deal with Bed Bugs
I invite you to share your experience, be it a solution that worked for you or a question regarding a bug infestation or bite. By asking questions and sharing, you are helping others around the globe that are dealing with the same problem you are, so please participate. If you have a picture to share, please use this tool to upload your photos and I’ll respond as soon as possible.
The Government has information on getting rid of bed bugs using pesticides and the government’s Inter-agency Bed Bug Task Force which includes the CDC, Department of Health, USDA, and the EPA, all educate people about Cimex lectularius Linnaeus.

I may place ads on my site to help pay for the server, but that’s as far as it goes. I do not own or work for a pest control company.

Paid advertisements may be featured in various places on the site. Additionally, companies sometimes send free products in order for them to be reviewed here on the website, such as a mattress cover or bed bug trap.
NONE OF THE ABOVE influences the opinions on this website or the decision of whether or not to feature them on the site.
I’ve found sites that claim to offer help and then mislead you into believing you can’t do this yourself (You Can!). They then recommend a pest control company without ever telling you that they are one in the same; that it’s all a trick to get customers! Lucky, the government is now requiring full disclosures and cracking down on this type of deception!
It all comes down to this: If you have patience to do this right, you CAN kill them yourself – you only need to read the success stories on my website to see it’s possible. If you don’t, then hire a pro, just MAKE SURE you hire one that has a solid reputation and know that you’ll still be doing work!
